Dubai Rules And Tips For Female Tourists

Dubai Rules and Tips for Female Tourists

There are many rules, in fact too many, however, some of them are a must-follow if you don’t want to face any legal penalties. And no, I am not referring to your dress code, but more to the alcohol and drug policies.

Dress in a respectful way

I know, Dubai, beach, sun, and sand but still you need to dress respectfully when touring the city, shopping, or dining out.

Yes to bikinis but only at the beach

In Dubai the weather is amazing for sunbathing all year round so take your swimming suit with you but wear it only at the beach and pool. Dubai is actually pretty relaxed when it comes to bathing suits but make sure to get fully dressed before leaving the beach, as walking down the street in a bathing suit is not allowed.

Don't show public affection

Dubai is a perfect place for a couple to escape. However, public affection is subject to the local culture and customs, which are generally frowned upon in the great city of Dubai so it’s best to be mindful of traditional expectations and standards while visiting. Therefore a no for PDA in Dubai!

Don't drink alcohol in public

Believe it or not, there are tons of places where you can drink alcohol in Dubai. Pretty much all the restaurants, lounges, and bars in each hotel serve alcohol and in most of them, you will find ladies’ night offering free drinks. So, considering all this, don’t drink alcohol in public, on the streets, parks, or beaches where this is not served.

Don't drink too much

Definitely for your safety avoid drinking too much. Although you can drink in hotels, make sure you don’t act drunk in public places as this can get you into some serious trouble.

Drugs are a no, no

Drugs of any kind are a no! There is zero tolerance for drug-related offenses and the penalties here are severe.

Topless sunbathing is not permitted in any location

Considering all the rules I’ve mentioned so far, I am not sure if this needs to be said, but here I am saying: topless sunbathing is not permitted in any location so don’t even think about it!

Dubai Dress Code For Women

Dubai Dress Code for Women

The dress code in Dubai is certainly a huge topic. Although I never heard of someone being jailed for wearing inappropriate clothes, I definitely suggest you follow the cultural rules.

What's acceptable dress in Dubai?

Basically, is anything that will cover you up, from any long dress to pants, shirts, and t-shirts. Although at a nightclub, fancy weekend brunch, or night out with the ladies, a short dress would be acceptable.

Cover your shoulders and knees

There are guidelines setting out the dress code, and there are signs at the entrances to malls and hotels reminding visitors of the rules, in particular the covering of shoulders and knees, which goes for both men and women. Although this, you may see ladies with short pants and tops. You’ll not get arrested for showing more than you should, however, is highly recommended to follow the country’s rules and avoid people staring or security stopping you. Plus in each mall, the low temperatures will make you cover yourself up.

Avoid clothing with offensive slogans or symbols

There is no law against this, but is advisable to avoid clothing with offensive slogans or symbols. Think carefully and conservatively about this one.

Carry a large, loose shirt, or a scarf in your bag

My advice is to always carry a scarf whether you will need to cover yourself for a more conservative look or because of the indoors low temperatures.

Cover your head when entering religious places

If you are planning to visit any mosque in Dubai, covering your head before entering is a must so will be great if you have a scarf with you. Now, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a bit more restrictive however there you will have an abaya offered before entering.

Getting Around Dubai Safely

Getting Around Dubai Safely

Are you wondering what is the best way of getting around Dubai safely?

By Taxi & Uber

Using a taxi or Uber is usually considered a very safe way of transportation in Dubai. And remember that in Dubai you will find pink taxis exclusive to ladies and families.

By Metro

Dubai Metro is one of the fastest, cheapest, easiest, and one of the safest ways to travel in Dubai. Also, the metro has a women and children carriage and a golden class carriage for a more comfortable trip.

By Rental Car

Renting a car is in my opinion the best way to get around Dubai safely. Plus the low price of gas and the possibility of moving around without depending on the metro schedule or higher costs for taxis makes it the best way of transportation.

Explore the captivating wonders of Dubai in a limited time frame with some engaging half-day tours.
